It is a situation that too many people know well. The weight is creeping on, even though not much has really changed. Clothes feel tighter. Maybe there has been a little extra indulgence here and there, but when you cut back and boost the exercise, still nothing shifts. When that happens, it is tempting to assume you are not trying hard enough. Usually, the picture is more complicated than that.

C-reactive protein, or CRP, is one of the blood markers most commonly used to assess inflammatory activity. Standard CRP and high-sensitivity CRP, often written as hs-CRP, are not interchangeable. They measure different concentration ranges and are used in different clinical contexts. A single result should therefore be interpreted by a healthcare professional alongside symptoms, medical history, other results and, when appropriate, repeat testing.
Blood values can still add useful context even when they sit inside a laboratory reference range, because the wider pattern may help build a more individual nutritional picture. They do not, however, diagnose the personal cause of stubborn weight or prove that inflammation is responsible.

There is no shortage of advice online about inflammatory foods and anti-inflammatory diets. Within seconds, an online search could give you a list of foods to remove and another list to add. The more useful question is: what does the evidence support, and what is appropriate for you?
Overall dietary pattern matters more than labelling one everyday food as "inflammatory" for everyone. Research on dietary patterns points towards meals built around vegetables, legumes, fruit, nuts and seeds, quality protein, fibre-rich foods and unsaturated fats, while limiting ultra-processed foods, refined carbohydrates and excess alcohol.
